Brekki Brekki Nears Opening Date

A fresh culinary venture in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights is set to open its doors this summer. Brekki Brekki, located at 8338 Comanche Road, is tentatively planning to open on Aug. 12. Owner Robert Punya was still awaiting approval of a "small brewer liquor license" as of July 26. Once approved, Julian Nunez, director of marketing and head brewer, will be permitted to craft a variety of beers and ciders in-house.

"We would open tomorrow if we had it," Nunez said. Once opened, the 3,250-square-foot restaurant will serve brunch items, including mimosas and a variety of biscuits and flatbreads. Items at the all-day breakfast establishment are priced at $13 to $18. In addition to serving food, Nunez and his team will operate a brewery called Cantina Craftworks within the Brekki Brekki space that will serve a variety of locally crafted beers and ciders, priced at $5 to $8. The concept replaces the former brewery, which closed its doors in January after 10 years in operation.

Brekki Brekki is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m and employs eight full- and part-time staff members, and can seat over 200 patrons, Nunez said. The building features a newly renovated interior, including new signage, updated kitchen equipment and refreshed patio space suitable for events such as baby showers and corporate gatherings, Cantina Hospitality Group CEO Lee Caperton said. “I think this degree of flavor profile is missing in town,” Caperton said.
